Ma Chhinnamasta - Severs Own Head

Objective:

Addiction to suffering, Wisdom, senses. Appropriate cultivation of sexual energy. She ends enemies, fear, obstacles, mental tensions.
Ma Chinnamasta: headless goddess. She has capacity of transcending mind and its functions, so that she finally achieves the ecstatic reabsorption in the Supreme Void of the Absolute Divine Consciousness.

Ma Chinnamasta liberates from desire for input sensory,
Cutting Mahavidya movement of mind - reaching samadhi.

Chhinnamasta - who severs Her own head clearly,
Called Chhinnamastika, Prachanda Chandika truly,

This tantric goddesses is a ferocious aspect of Devi,
And can be identified by Her fearsome iconography.

Holds scimitar in one hand, severed head other plainly,
Three jets of blood spurting out of her bleeding neck be,

Which drunk by her own severed head, attendants be,
Portrayed as standing on a copulating couple usually.

She associated with the concept of self-sacrifice be,
Removing of unwanted Desire, awakening of kundalini,

She spiritual energy dormant in Sookshma Sharira* be,
She the contradictions; self-control on sexual desire be,
* subtle body

She epithet of sexual energy, as interpreted by devotee.
Chhinnamasta considered a dark and dangerous deity.

Her individual worship restricted to Tantric worship be,
And She recognized by Hindus and the Buddhists be.

She indicates towards an eternal truth but universally,
Life fed by death and life; death, sex inter-related be,

And the ultimate destiny of sexual desire is certainly,
To perpetuate more life and continue the life circle only.

 She self-control symbol, control over growing desire be,
Which must be achieved before yogic practice actually,

She represents the control of the desire unquestionably,
During Yogic practice and suppression of sexual lust fully.

Chhinnamasta Devi red like the hibiscus flower does be,
And glowing bright as a million suns shinning universally,

She portrayed mostly nude, with her hair disheveled be,
She is considered to a sixteen-year-old girl, youthful be,

 She with full breasts and a blue lotus near heart clearly,
She depicted donning a serpent as a sacred thread be,

She dons a garland of skulls of severed heads surely,
Of bones and other ornaments around her neck visibly.

Both attendants nude, with three-eyes are seen clearly,
Donning the alive serpentine sacred thread in actuality,

They carrying skull-bowl in their left hand discernably,
And knife in right hand which severed the head surely.

Dakini, light-skinned, represents tamas guna does be,
Varnini red-complexioned, embodying rajas guna truly.

Chhinnamasta stands on Kamadeva and his wife Rati,
Who absorbed in copulation with latter, on top usually.

 Below couple is a lotus, behind cremation ground be,
Copulating couple at times different or absent can be.

Symbolism

Chhinnamasta signifies life, death surely,
And sex are interdependent undoubtedly,

Embodies the truth: life on death feeding be,
And sex destiny to perpetuate more life truly,

The life decays, dies to feed more life actually,
Lotus, copulating couple: life, procreate urge be,

The blood flowing from Goddess' neck simply,
Conveys death, which flowing into mouths be,

Of devotees, nourishing them – She a giver be.
Chhinnamasta is the awakening of the kundalini,

Lovemaking - awakening in Muladhar chakra be,
The kundalini flows through the center in body,

Blood from throat - upward-flowing kundalini,
Breaking obstacles and enlightenment finally.

Severed head, transcendent consciousness be,
. Daknini, Varnini and Chhinnamasta related be,

To three main subtle nadis or channels, namely,
The Ida, the Pingala and the Sushumna surely,

The self-decapitation also does representing be,
The removal of all ignorance and ego completely,

Ma Chhinnamastika known as Maa Chintpurni,
Frees seeker from fear and destroys enemies,

She gives joy, peace. fulfills wishes of devotee,
And removed all their doubts, sorrows, worries.

Dyan

छिन्नमस्त ध्यानम् 
प्रत्यालीढपदां सदैव दधतीं छिन्नं शिरःकर्त्तृकां ।
दिग्वस्त्रां स्वकबन्धशोणितसुधाधारां पिबन्तीं मुदा ॥

नगाबद्धशिरोमणिं त्रिनयनां हृद्युत्पलालंकृतां ।
रत्यांसक्तमनोभवोपरि दृढां ध्यायेज्जपासन्निभाम् ॥

Chinnamasta’s left foot forward, right back be,
And holding a severed head and sword clearly;

Clothed by directions, joyfully drinking nectar be,
Of blood flowing from own headless trunk plainly;

Who with Gem on Her Head, bound by Serpent be, 
With three Eyes, Heart adorned with lotus surely;

Who above mind tendencies, attachments worldly,
Is meditated on, has red colour as Hibiscus brightly.

दक्षे चातिसिताविमुक्तचिकुरा कर्तृंस्तथा खर्परं ।
हस्ताभ्यां दधती रजोगुणभवो नाम्नापिसा वर्णिनी ॥

देव्याश्छिन्नकबन्धतः पतदसृग्धारां पिबन्तीं मुदा ।
नागाबद्धशिरोमणिर्म्मनुविदा ध्येय सदा सा सुरैः ॥

On Her right is Yogini – bright white in colour be,
Her hair set loose, holding Sword and Skull truly;

Who disposed of Raja guna, is named as Varini,
Drinks blood flowing from headless trunk of Devi;

Who with Gem on Her Head, bound by Serpent be, 
Knower of Manu and meditated upon by Devas be.

वामे कृष्णतनूस्तथैव दधती खंगं तथा खर्परं ।
प्रत्यालीढपदाकबन्धविगलद्रक्तं पिबन्ती मुदा ॥

सैषा या प्रलये समस्तभूवनं भोक्तुं क्षमा तामसी ।
शक्तिः सापि परात् परा भगवती नाम्ना परा डाकिनी ॥

On Her left is a Yogini, whose form Black does be, 
Who holding a Khanga, Khaddga and a Skull be,

Her left foot extends forward, right drawn back be, 
Drinks blood flowing from headless trunk of Devi;

Who dark, at dissolution swallows the World fully,
Who transcendental power, is the Goddess Dakini.

माँ छिन्नमस्ता कवच

हुं बीजात्मिका देवी मुण्डकर्त्रिधरा परा ।
ह्रदयं पातु सा देवी वर्णिनी डाकिनी युता ॥
May Mahadevi, who bearing severed head be,
With Goddess Dakini, protect my heart totally.

श्रीं ह्रीं हुं ऐं चैव देवी पूर्वस्यां पातु सर्वदा ।
सर्वांग मे सदा पातु छिन्नमस्ता महाबला ॥
Protect East, Shri Hrim Hoon Aim Bijatmika Devi,
And Chinnamasta ever protect my whole fully.

वज्रवैरोचनीये हुं फट् बीजसमन्विता ।
उत्तरस्यां तथाग्नां च वारुणे नैऋतेऽवतु ॥
Protect north Vajravairochniye with 'Hoon Phat' fully,
Agni, Varuna and southwest directions completely.

इन्द्राक्षी भैरवी चैव सितांगी च सहारिणी ।
सर्वदा पातु मां देवी चान्यान्यासु हि दिक्षु वै ॥
May Indrakshi, Bhairavi, Asitangi, Sanharini Devi,
Always protect me in all the directions unfailingly.

Chinnamasta Stotra

छिन्नमस्ता स्तोत्र

नाभौ शुद्धसरोजरक्तविलसद्वन्धूकपुष्पारुणं।
भास्वद्भास्करमण्डलं तदुदरे तद्योनिचक्रम्महत्॥
तन्मध्ये विपरीत मैथुन रतप्रद्युम्नतत्कामिनी।
पृष्ठस्थां तरुणार्ककोटिविलसत्तेजः स्वरूपां शिवाम्॥
A lotus blooms in Her navel, in middle a red sun circle be,
In middle of that sun circle a big yoni chakra seen clearly,
In its middle seated the enamored Kamadeva and Rati be,
Chhinnamasta at the back of Kamadeva and Rati Devi.

वामे छिन्नशिरोधरां तदितरे पाणौ महत्कर्तृकां।
प्रत्यालीढपदां दिगन्तवानामुन्मुक्तकेशव्रजाम्॥
छिन्नात्मीयशिरः समुल्लसद्सृग्धारां पिबन्तीं परां।
बालादित्यसमप्रकाशविलसन्नेत्रत्रयोद्भासिनीम्
In his left hand holding a severed head, in right a saber be,
Devi a step forward, a step back, clothes 4 directions be,
Hair open, she drinking blood from severed head clearly,
Her three eyes are as bright as the morning sun glowingly.

वामादन्यत्र नालं बहु बहुलगलद्रक्तधाराभिरुच्चैः।
पायन्तीमस्थिभूषां करकमललसत्कर्तृकामुग्ररूपाम्॥
रक्तामारक्तकेशीमपगतवसनां वर्णिनीमात्मशक्तिं।
प्रत्यालींढोरुपादामरुणितनयनां योगिनीं योगनिद्राम॥
Two yoginis seated in south and left side of goddess be,
Yogini in their south, holding a scissor, is her idol fiery,
They are fully naked and their eyes but blood red do be, 
Chhinnamasta aids them lap blood from her neck actually.

दिग्वस्त्रां मुक्तकेशीं प्रलयघटघटाघोररूपां प्रचण्डी।
दंष्ट्रांदुष्प्रेक्ष्यवक्त्रोदरविवरलसल्लोलजिह्वाग्रभागाम्॥
विद्युल्लोलाक्षियुग्मां हृदयतटलसद्भोगिभीमां सुमूर्ति।
सद्यश्छिन्नात्मकण्ठप्रगलितरुधिरैर्डाकिनीं वर्द्धयन्तीम्॥
The Yogini at the left is naked and her hair but open be,
She fierce as doomsday cloud, face covered by teeth be,
Her tongue moving, eyes as lightning, snake in heart be, 
Chhinnamasta, with blood from her throat, satisfying Dakini.

ब्रह्मेशानाच्युताद्यैः शिरसि विनिहितामं
दपादारविंदामात्मज्ञैर्योगिमुख्यैः।
सुनिपुणमनिशं चिन्तिताचिंत्यरूपाम् संसारे सारभूतां॥
त्रिभुवनजननीं छिन्न मस्तां प्रशस्तामिष्टां।
तामिष्टदात्रीं कलिकलुषहरां चेतसा चिन्तयामि॥
Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu revering lotus feet of Devi,
Lost in Her incredible form – world essence certainly,
She is the creator, She the fulfiller of all desires be, 
I meditate on the Kali Yuga sin remover but sincerely.

उत्पत्तिस्थितिसंहृतीर्घटयितुं धत्ते त्रिरूपां तनुं।
त्रैगुणयाज्जगतो मदीयविकृतिर्ब्रह्माच्युतः शूलभृत्॥
तमाद्यां प्रकृतिं स्मरामि मनसा सर्व्वार्थसंसिद्धये।
यस्याः स्मेरपदारविन्दयुगले लाभं भजन्तेऽमनाः॥
She wears Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra for the world clearly,
The world’s creation, preservation and destruction surely,
Deities worship both feet which as blooming lotus do be, 
For all fulfillment, I meditate on Chhinnamasta Devi truly.

अपि पिशित-परस्त्री योगपूजापरोऽहं।
बहुविधजडभावारम्भसम्भाविताऽहम्॥
पशुजनविरतोऽहं भैरवीसंस्थितोऽहं।
गुरुचरणपरोऽहं भैरवोऽहं शिवोऽहम्॥
I smitten of alcohol, meat, adultery and a yoga devotee,
Attached to lotus feet of Devi, in external world rooted be,
I away from animal-like seeker, in midst of Bhairavi qualities, 
I meditate on the Guru’s lotus feet. I Bhairav, Shiva form be.

इदं स्तोत्रं महापुण्यं ब्रह्मणा भाषितं पुरा।
सर्व्वसिद्धिप्रदं साक्षान्महापातकनाशनम्॥
Brahma ji stated this giving this great virtue previously,
This stotra is provider of all accomplishments surely,
. This is the unfailing destroyer of all but unquestionably,
Be it the biggest and worst offenders on any kind clearly.

यः पठेत प्रातरुत्थाय देव्याः सन्निहितोऽपि वा।
तस्य सिद्धिर्भवेद्देवि वाच्छितार्थप्रदायिनी॥
Who recites this stotra during the worship sincerely,
Of Chhinnamasta Devi, rising from bed at dawn early, 
O Goddess! O revered and worshipped great Devi!
All his wishes and desires are fulfilled ever speedily.

धन्यं धान्यं सुतां जायां हयं हस्तिनमेव च।
वसुन्धरां महाविद्यामष्टासिद्धिर्भवेद्ध्रुवम्॥
Any person who recites this stotra truly and sincerely,
Gets wealth, grain, son, horse, elephant – things worldly. 
He will attain Ashta Siddhi and Nav Nidhis undeniably,
Vyaghrajinachitswajaghne Ramye Pralambodere surely.

खर्व्वेऽनिर्वचनीयपर्व्वसुभगे मुण्डावलीमण्डिते॥
कर्त्रीं कुन्दरुचिं विचित्ररचनां ज्ञानं दधाने पदे।
मातर्भक्तजनानुकम्पितमहामायेऽस्तु तुभ्यं नमः॥
Mother! Tiger skin is around your thighs, You beautiful be,
Your abdomen long, You tiny, body adorned with Trivali be,
. You liberate, and in your hand a white shearing weapon be, 
You show mercy to devotees - I ever greet you repeatedly.

These twelve names Chinnamasta liking be,
Recalling at dawn, destroyed are enemies.

छिन्नमस्ताद्वादशनामस्तोत्रम् 
छिन्नग्रीवा छिन्नमस्ता छिन्नमुण्डधराऽक्षता ।
क्षोदक्षेमकरी स्वक्षा क्षोणीशाच्छादनक्षमा ॥ १॥
वैरोचनी वरारोहा बलिदानप्रहर्षिता ।
बलिपूजितपादाब्जा वासुदेवप्रपूजिता ॥ २॥

चन्द्रचूडाला अष्टकम्

यमनियमाद्यङ्गयुतैर्योगैर्यत्पादपङ्कजं द्रष्टुम् ।
प्रयतन्ते मुनिवर्यास्तमहं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥१॥

यमगर्वभञ्जनचणं नमतां सर्वेष्टदानधौरेयम् ।
शमदमसाधनसंपल्लभ्यं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥२॥

यं द्रोणबिल्वमुख्यैः पूजयतां द्वारि मत्तमातङ्गाः ।
कण्ठे लसन्ति विद्यास्तमहं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥३॥

नलिनभवपद्मनेत्रप्रमुखामरसेव्यमानपदपद्मम् ।
नतजनविद्यादानप्रवणं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥४॥

नुतिभिर्देववराणां मुखरीकृतमन्दिरद्वारम् ।
स्तुतमादिमवाक्ततिभिः सततं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥५॥

जन्तोस्तव पादपूजनकरणात्करपद्मगाः पुमर्थाः स्युः ।
मुरहरपूजितपादं तमहं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥६॥

चेतसि चिन्तयतां यत्पदपद्मं सत्वरं वक्त्रात् ।
निःसरति वाक्सुधामा तमहं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥७॥

नम्राज्ञानतमस्ततिदूरीकरणाय नेत्रलक्ष्माद्यः ।
धत्तेऽग्निचन्द्रसूर्यांस्तमहं प्रणमामि चन्द्रचूडालम् ॥८॥

अष्टकमेतत्पठतां स्पष्टतरं कष्टनाशनं पुंसाम् ।
अष्ट ददाति हि सिद्धीरिष्टसमष्टीश्च चन्द्रचूडालः ॥९॥

इति चन्द्रचूडालाष्टकं संपूर्णम् ॥
